Pioneer Brings Back Another Retro Head Unit

Pioneer has put the DEH X8700DAB back into production. UK retailer Car Audio Security discovered the single DIN deck is available again, more than a decade after it first launched in 2014.

The DEH X8700DAB pairs a CD player, DAB+ and AM/FM radio with a large LCD display, physical buttons and a spectrum analyser. Bluetooth handles wireless streaming and hands free calling. The deck also includes a front auxiliary input, rear USB connection, direct iPod and iPhone control, Android compatibility and Siri Eyes Free support.

A built in MOSFET amplifier delivers 4 x 50W. Three 4V RCA pre outs cover front, rear and subwoofer channels. The deck also has a five band graphic EQ, high pass and low pass filters, Pioneer’s Advanced Sound Retriever technology and 210,000 color RGB illumination.

This may sound familiar. Pioneer took a similar approach about a year ago with the SXT-C10PS, a single DIN deck styled after 1980s head units. Its faux cassette door opens to reveal a USB port. That deck offers phone sync, Bluetooth, DAB+, RGB multi illumination, a 13 band graphic EQ, manual time alignment, high pass and low pass filters, three RCA pre outs and MOSFET power rated at 50W x 4. Pioneer said at the time that European classic car sales continue to grow by about 7.5 percent annually, and cited demand from owners who want to keep an original dashboard look rather than add a modern screen. The SXT-C10PS shipped in the UK in October 2025.

Pioneer is not stopping at radios. The company added retro styled box speakers to the lineup in June. The TS-X40SXT speakers use a three way design styled after enclosures from the 1980s and 1990s and carry a UK retail price near £250, roughly $341 USD. CEoutlook reported on the speakers June 23. Between the radios and the speakers, Pioneer is steadily building out a full retro product line for nostalgia driven builds and restomod customers.

There has been no comment or information from Pioneer North America on whether either retro unit is coming to the region. More news could surface as SEMA 2026 gets closer.
