Pioneer Retro Speakers

Pioneer is preparing to add retro-styled rear-shelf box speakers to its growing retro product lineup with a new model due in the UK, according to social media reports.

The speakers, the TS-X40SXT, comprise a three-way system styled after the classic enclosure designs of the 1980s and 1990s. They are currently available in Japan under the Carrozzeria brand. UK retail is planned at approximately £250, with units carrying the classic Pioneer branding and fork logo. Pioneer said no official plans for the US have been announced at this time.

The TS-X40SXT joins the SXT-C10PS, a single-DIN receiver designed to resemble a cassette deck while offering Bluetooth, USB and DAB+ connectivity. The two products position Pioneer with a retro-themed product line for retailers targeting nostalgia-driven builds and restomod customers. But again, plans for the radio in the US are not yet announced.

UK retailer Car Audio Security posted a hands-on video with the product on Instagram ahead of the official release. –

Each enclosure houses a 5-inch cone woofer, 2-inch mid-range driver and 1-inch dome tweeter in a square housing with exposed hardware and a matte metallic finish. Rated specs include a 45Hz to 36kHz frequency range, 50-watts RMS power rating each, 84dB sensitivity and 4-ohm impedance. The bass-reflex enclosure uses a double slit port design for low-end output. Each speaker ships with a 5-metre cable (16 feet), flexible mounting brackets and pre-wired connectors.

  1. There definitely is a market for these and an 80’s style single din with a good U.S. AM/FM Tuner, two models, one with and one without CD and of course bluetooth. After that, a flipdown with the OEL Dolphin display graphics!
