It turns out there was a “Best of Innovation” for CES awarded in the automotive space, it just wasn’t announced until the eve of the show. So we were wrong.

The Best of CES award for in-vehicle Audio/Video went to Parrot whose RNB6 aftermarket deck is not only Android and Car Play ready but is also one of the first retail decks to include an OBD2 port so it links directly into the electronics of the car. And it’s one of the first car radios with a 7-inch HD screen at 720p.

It also has an Ethernet port for use in the future.

The Parrot double DIN radio has built in WiFi for tethering to a smartphone or for use with a hotspot, in which case it acts a tablet with access to apps from the Parrot Auto Market. It also includes Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI/MHL and USB.

The RNB6  (Parrot may change the name before delivery) works with a full HD dash cam, which may or may not come bundled with the radio. The dash cam also provides lane departure alert when you leave your lane without activating a turn signal. The dash cam uses a microSD card up to 64GB.

The deck is expected to ship later this year at a price to be announced.

  1. And the Kenwood is slow. Feels bogged down and it’s the only touch screen unit I’ve ever had that was returned due to customer not liking it. Not user friendly. If this Parrot is anything like the Asteroid Smart it will be a hit.

  2. Kenwood has been able to display OBD data for at least a year now. The same interface can allow for retention of factory sat radio, bluetooth and backup cam too. Just sayin.
