These Headlights Are Awesome

Huawei headlights can project movies.

China is racing ahead of the curve in headlight technology. Huawei’s new XPixel headlight technology, to be available on an upcoming Chinese SUV model, can project not only heads up display-type information onto the pavement ahead as you drive, but it can project full color movies when the vehicle is parked.

XPixel can turn a car into a personal drive-in theater when parked in front of a wall. And the headlights integrate into the car’s driver assist system, so they can project arrows on the street ahead of the car for navigation cues and lane guidance markers on a foggy night, or a ‘virtual light carpet’ for better visibility. They can also display information such as speed limits on the street ahead. Or they can project a virtual crosswalk in front of a stopped car to signal to pedestrians that it’s safe to cross in front.

XPixel headlights can also project, say, a hockey game or children’s games, such as hopscotch onto the pavement or they can project a music synthesizer.

The headlights, shown at the recent Beijing Auto Show, will appear on the next version of the existing Huawei Aito M9 electric SUV in China.

  1. So, 100% tariffs keeps these cars in China, BYD said to sell for low $40’s and with tariffs would sell for $80K ++….this is about the only tariff I feel good about at present! We don’t need China destroying yet another market here in the USA. I’ve adjusted to the tariffs in my company, but to be clear, off the backs of our Dealers and ultimately the end-user.
