General Motors, which is gradually removing CarPlay from its vehicles, announced it has entered a deal with Apple to provide an in-dash Apple Music app to users starting December 15.
GM will offer the app as an over-the-air update to vehicle owners.
GM is making the Apple Music audio streaming standard through OnStar Basics for all 2025 and newer vehicles in North America. Users can access music (over 100 million songs), audiobooks, podcasts and news at no additional connectivity cost for 8 years.
Cadillac owners can also make use of Apple Music’s Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos library.
“In vehicles like the Cadillac VISTIQ, a commanding 23-speaker AKG audio system — equipped with strategically positioned Dolby Atmos–enabled speakers — creates a soundstage where instruments occupy distinct physical spaces and vocals float precisely where the artist intended,” said GM.
Users also get hands free control.
The roll out to GM vehicles is as follows:
Cadillac
- 2025 and 2026 CT5
- 2025 ESCALADE IQ
- 2026 VISTIQ, featuring Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos
- More vehicles on the way with immersive audio
Chevrolet
- 2025 and 2026 Blazer EV, Equinox EV and Silverado EV
- 2026 Corvette, Suburban and Tahoe
- More vehicles on the way, including the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt
Buick & GMC
- Vehicles coming soon
