Blaupunkt debuted the newest addition to its Retro Radio line up: a “digital” twin shaft radio with a switchable screen.

The Frankfurt MD features an LCD screen that displays the old fashioned radio dials of the 1960s (see below).  But, when you turn the adjustment knob, the analog display disappears, and a modern interface appears on the screen. In this menu, you can adjust audio inputs, fader, Bluetooth, and other settings. This radio is aimed at consumers who want to maintain the classic look to match their vehicle’s interior.

The Frankfurt MD features:

  • Media Receiver
  • 3″ TFT Color Screen
  • AM/FM Tuner
  • Rear USB/Aux-In
  • Bluetooth with External microphone
  • Negative LCD Display (works well in direct sunlight)
  • Triple Pre-Outs
  • DSP with 14-Band EQ
  • SWR Compatible

See more in Dan Bowman’s SEMA walkthrough of the radio via Instagram. The Frankfurt MD is expected to be available in Q1 2026, at pricing to be announced.

Twin shaft radios were the standard car stereo design from roughly the 1960s through the early 1980s, before the industry standardized on DIN-sized units. The Frankfurt MD gives owners a chance to modernize classic vehicles without altering their original appearance.

Also new is the Baja 700 from Blaupunkt with an Android-based operating system. The 7-inch double DIN radio provides direct access to the Google Play store, for the ability to download apps directly to the radio.  The Baja 700 offers wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with a MAP of $325.00.

The Baja 700 will be available in Q1 2026.  Click here for Blaupunkt’s 2025-2026 catalog.
