After hinting at a new superwoofer, Rockford took the wraps off the T3 19-inch superwoofer at CES, and announced expected availability by March at $2,500.
Over five years in concept stage, the subwoofer is about 15 inches deep and its power handling is so large, Rockford hasn’t finished testing it. So far it’s handled 6,000 watts, but it’s full potential remains to be seen, said the lead developer for the product, Rockford’s Drew Kallen.

The T3 uses two distinct voice coils driven by two separate magnetic air gaps using one very large, high energy neodymium single magnet, allowing for extreme output with very low distortion, said Kallen.
A new suspension was developed especially for the superwoofer using injection molded foam surround. Normally, you can’t injection mold foam in the shape used in the woofer, said Kallen.
Linear X-max for the speaker is 35mm one way or full 70mm peak to peak linear excursion, which is almost three times that of a typical subwoofer.
Its 3 layer cone uses a glass fiber nomex honeycomb core with glass fiber backing.
The woofer is a statement “SQL woofer” or a hybrid of Sound Pressure Level (SPL) and Sound Quality (SQ) designs, said Rockford.
It can be used with Rockford’s 2,500 watt amplifiers put together.

Yeah right Simon. Your full of crap! Rockford Fosgate has been around for 35 years for a reason. They are the number one subwoofer company in not only design, but quality. Apparently you have never owned a product from Rockford or you would understand the difference between “junk” and quality! This new subwoofer design is the first ever developed by any company, period. And it has once again been developed by Rockford!! Pound away baby!
Being older doesn’t make you better. RF being 35 has nothing to do with there ability to bring new ideas to market. As a former Fosgate Fanatic, I appreciate what RF has done in the past but feel that they are simply stuck in the past. This sub is cool, but not revolutionary. Companies like Digital Designs have had this amount of suspension travel capability for years and their doing it for less. I don’t doubt that the RF sub is quite capable, but you need to look outside the mainstream audio box that most people live in because there are several smaller companies that have better performing and better value products available.
$2500
There are several other smaller companies building subs with this kind of suspension capabilities already. Actually, they’ve been doing it for years and they’re doing it for less money and they aren’t 15 inches deep.
35mm one-way Xmas 3 times that of a typical sub? Let’s compare apples to apples, k?
