Compustar is offering a front and rear digital video recording system that works even when your car is parked. If you’ve ever parked your car overnight and woke up to find new dents, this device can capture the incident in video.
The Compustar Dash includes a DVR camera with 3.5 inch LCD that mounts by the rear view mirror and another that mounts above the rear windshield (inside the car). The system has both an onboard shock sensor and perimeter sensor so it knows if something moves within 20 feet of the vehicle. When you turn off the ignition, the camera goes into an armed state and LED lights on the cameras will flash more quickly if someone approaches the car, indicating that the car is armed.
The product ties into the car ignition, and comes with a universal wiring harness, 16GB memory card, micro to USB card reader and software to install on your computer to playback video footage.
In the case of an incident, the DVR cameras will record 10 seconds before and after automatically.
The Dash is expected to ship in mid-September at $449 installed. Dealers who pre-order three or more units, receive a free display while supplies last, said Compustar.
