Expanding beyond car security, Viper is launching Viper Home—a self-installed home security solution to be launched exclusively through Best Buy stores in the U.S.
The system takes less than 15 minutes to install (without special tools). Called the Viper Home Starter Kit at $229.99, it includes a central hub that connects to an Internet router. It has an indoor motion detector, and a magnetic door/window sensor. You can then use your smartphone to control your home system, so if you are away and want to check on your security system you can simply tap on the ViperConnect app.
“Viper Home was created to give people a technologically advanced, yet self-installed and low-cost solution to home security that they can personally monitor through their smartphones with sensors and real-time video,” said James Turner, VP of Product Development at Viper. “We believe our proprietary technology will show that traditional home security firms with expensive monthly fees are a thing of the past.”
Optional accessories for the home system include a remote control key fob and an indoor camera and motion detector. Plus there’s an indoor siren and a Z-WAVE controls for lighting, thermostat and garage door.
For $9.99/month, users get notifications of a security event to their smartphone with full color streaming video of the inside of the home (via an indoor camera and motion detector).
Viper says it offers home security in its simplest form.

The ViperConnect app for the home links to the Viper SmartStart app (remote start from-a-phone) to become “the world’s first all-in-one home and car security monitoring solution for the smartphone,” said Directed, maker of Viper security products.

Only problem I see, is it only being available thru best buy

Why is it exclusive to Best Buy? It’s a stab in the back of every Viper dealer. Best Buy is suck in installing Viper alarms and Remote starters.
