The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and the Mobile Electronics Retailers Association (MERA) will launch a campaign Thursday to raise awareness of aftermarket in-vehicle technologies and to connect them with 12 volt retailers in their area.

MERA new logoThe spring “Digital Driver” campaign will focus on 5 products and in-car services including Bluetooth audio streaming and better autosound.

Starting May 24, CEA will produce satellite feeds that TV stations may pick up featuring 2-3 minute segments on demo vehicles.  Last year’s “media tour” reached about 8 million viewers.  You can expect to see news segments on car audio on morning news shows and drive-time radio programs.

The campaign points out ways to add “new car tech” to your ride and the importance of MECP certified installers.

CEAEach media feed will direct viewers to DigitalDriver.org where they are pointed to local retailers. Only brick and mortar retailers that are members of CEA and/or MERA will appear in the site’s search results. Any retailer who is not currently a CEA or MERA member may contact Jack Cutts ([email protected]) or Tracey Vigeant ([email protected]) to learn more about becoming an association member.

“The campaign is designed to pique the interest of consumers by showing a few things they can do in their vehicle of which they might not be aware. The website will make it easy for them to identify local retailers and will remind them of the importance of quality installation,” said Jack Cutts, CEA’s Sr. Manager of Member Programs.

MERA President Chris Cook said the campaign should create more foot traffic for dealers and better consumer awareness of aftermarket car electronics.

CEA and MERA also plan a Fall 2012 phase of the Digital Driver campaign that will focus on safety, security and convenience technologies and solutions for the vehicle.

The full list of products to be included in the spring campaign are:

  • Bluetooth audio streaming;
  • Internet in the vehicle;
  • Rear-seat entertainment;
  • Use of music playlists; and
  • Enhanced autosound.
