Amazon, which all but admits, it’s working on a tablet, is preparing a 10-inch color iPad rival that can stream video, according to investment firm Detwiler Fenton. The device is code named Hollywood and is expected to be available at $399 in time for the holiday season.
Amazon may offer a free video service trial for the tablet for a certain period. This would be the same movie service AMZN that it already provides to its Prime customers.
Dewiler says at $399, Amazon can grab some decent market share in the tablet space.
Asus is also hitting the $399 price point with its EE Pad Transformer, and is having trouble keeping up with demand, reports Engadget. Asus’ CEO says he expects to sell 300,000 of the tablets this month following shipments of a total 400,000 for April and May.
Apple has sold over 25 million iPads in 14 months.
