Audi launches in-car gaming for passengers while the car is in motion.

Audi officially launched last week, in-car gaming while the car is motion for passengers.

The system uses AirConsole’s online gaming platform and works in select Audi vehicles.

Games, including Mattel’s Pictionary Car Party can be played on the car’s infotainment system in models with a passenger display. Audi offers “a unique digital curtain that blocks the screen from the driver to prevent distraction…”  Audi previously limited gaming to when the car was parked.

“This is a game-changer for in-car entertainment. With Audi, we’re redefining what’s possible inside a vehicle…” said Anthony Cliquot, CEO at N-Dream, the makers of AirConsole.

The feature is now available in the Audi A5, Q5, A6, A6 e-tron, and Q6 e-tron model series equipped with Android-based infotainment systems.

Passengers can play together on the central MMI touch display or on the MMI passenger display in models with that feature. Smartphones are connected to the vehicle using a QR code and then serve as controllers.

AirConsole is a cloud-based video game console platform where smartphones act as controllers, allowing multiple players to use a single screen (like a TV, computer, or a car’s infotainment system) for gaming. It was developed by the Swiss startup N-Dream.
