Epsilon, supplier of car audio brands including Soundstream, Power Acoustik and Precision Power, is diversifying beyond car audio into luxury appliances. These include a cigar humidor/wine refrigerator combination and a meat dry ager that will be sold to big box retailers.
The first product has a humidor on top and a wine refrigerator below. Next is a meat dry ager that can age steak for 21 days “like a high end steak house,” said Epsilon VP sales Ronnie Brashear.
He said the company is diversifying because, “You grow and expand or you die.”
“These are not crowded markets in my mind. When I came up with the dual humidor/wine cooler, that’s a couples purchase. I can see the guy wanting the humidor and the wife saying no, but put in the wine cooler and now you have a couples purchase,” he added.
The combo humidor/wine frig called Havana Vino holds 600 cigars and up to 49 bottles of wine. It will be sold at Costco stores and is available in some Home Depot and Lowe’s locations and online. It was in development for 19 months. You can see more at havanavino.com. The retail price is $2,499.
The meat ager works off of temperature and humidity to keep the interior of the meat at 36 degrees and humidity at 86. This produces a cool but very humid atmosphere. The outside of the meat begins to thicken and harden. As that happens, the natural enzymes in the meat start breaking down the tendons and fat. It acts as a high end tenderizer. It will carry a retail price of $1,999.
Epsilon is producing an infomercial for the meat dry ager and a social media blitz for the humidor/wine frig and meat ager.
