Cerwin’s Unusual Amplified Subwoofers

Cerwin Vega displayed at the SEMA Show two unusual under-the-seat powered subwoofers.  One includes a built-in 2-channel amplifier and the other, a 4-channel amplifier for system building.  They are a departure from the typical mono amplifier in under-the-seat powered subs that simply drive the subwoofer.

The units, model VPAS841 and VPAS821, offer an 8-inch subwoofer in a sealed enclosure.  They deliver 50 watts x 4 or 250 x 1 for the 4-channel model and 50 watts x 2 or 250 x 1 for the 2-channel.

The compact enclosed subwoofers each have dual potentiometers for subwoofer and speaker control and are expected to ship at the end of Q1 at prices to be announced.

Cerwin Vega also redesigned several of its lines, which were previewed at the SEMA Show, including VEGA series speakers. The line has carbon fiber cones, cast baskets, rubber surrounds and nomex spiders.

The VEGA series has expanded its product size offerings ranging from a 2.5” size driver to an 8” component.  Power handing for the new VEGA series ranges from 50 watts RMS to 150 watts RMS.

Also redesigned is the HED entry level line of speakers in a wide range of sizes with newly designed crossovers.  The HED speakers are designed with a much slimmer profile for ease of factory-replacement installation.  Coaxial speakers come in 6×9-, 5×7-, 6.5-, 4-, 3.5- and  2-inch sizes.  Shipping  is expected at the end of Q1.

Finally, the company recently began shipping a new CVPX line of entry level pro audio speakers for recreational, power sports, and motorcycle applications. The series includes three full range horn loaded drivers and one horn loaded bullet tweeter.  An example is the 8-inch full range speaker with horn tweeter at a retail price of $75.99.
