VOXX Electronics (VOXX, Directed) will sell in the US a CarLink remote start/security system that works with a Thinkware dashcam over cellular service to allow real time views of one’s car.
VOXX’s Carlink remote start/security transmitters will work with a special version of the Thinkware F790 that will be compatible with remote start/security systems from all major brands. The new CarLink and Thinkware system will likely be available this year.
Users will be able to see live views in and around their car in the case of a break-in on a parked car. And they can check in on their vehicle via a live video feed to their smartphone at any time.
This is similar to a MyCar-Thinkware system due from Automobility in Canada this year. Automobility provides CarLink to VOXX in the US.
Rob Nelson, President of Automobility said the Thinkware/CarLink system will use a portion of the 4G LTE band called Cat-M. This is used for machine connections and is not quite as high in bandwidth as 4G LTE, but it “allows us to be at a very competitive price point” for airtime fees.
