At the recent CMA Expo, AutoMobility announced two devices including MYCAR2, a universal remote start add-on that works with a soon-to-be released Thinkware dashcam model.
Through a partnership with Thinkware for the Canadian market, one of its dashcams will connect to a MYCAR2 module/app that allows remote start from a phone with most leading remote start brands.
While this particular product is offered in Canada only, the idea of linking a dashcam to remote start appears to be a trend. Compustar recently introduced the Drone XC in the US, a dashcam which links to remote start.
With MYCAR2 the user can receive alerts for parking mode incidents and can peer in and around the car when notified via WiFi or a cellular connection.
The app also provides downloads of accident videos. When the dashcam detects an incident, it will create a 20 second video (10 seconds before the incident and 10 seconds after the incident), The user receives a notification via the MYCAR 2 app and may then view the car directly through the MYCAR2 app.
MYCAR2 is compatible with most digital remote start systems including Compustar, Directed, Fortin, iDataStart, PolarStart, Flashlogic, Omega, and Midcity.
It will work exclusively with a future version of the Thinkware model F790, said Automobility.
For the US market, AutoMobility supplies VOXX with Carlink, a similar product as MyCAR2.
The second device shown by AutoMobility at the CMA Expo was the E-KEY, that allows a smartphone to act as a car’s keyfob. It will be available in Canada at a date to be announced. It is similar to the VOXX ekey offered in the US.
The E-KEY eliminates the need to carry a bulky keyfob. It allows entry into the car and permits the car to start seamlessly when used with most push-to-start vehicles. A credit card sized hard key comes with it in case of lost connection or battery drain on the phone .
Probably work about as good as MyCar MyCar2 so my expectations are low
I’m sure this winter this dashcam and remote starter system will be a shining star and cash cow of package. Two way remote sales already fell to 10% of the previous year with the subscription free mycar unit. Now that it will link to a dash cam, even for a one time fee. I expect I will need to stock very heavy on this guy.
