DroneMobile 4G Dash Cam from Firstech

Firstech is now shipping a 4G dash cam, the first to integrate seamlessly with an aftermarket remote start and security system, it said.

The Drone XC 4G dash cam offers real time views in and around one’s vehicle over LTE with the use of an updated DroneMobile app.

The XC Dash Cam can be installed as a 2K QHD standalone unit with GPS tracking and LTE connectivity or added to a security/remote start system.

While driving, DroneMobile XC continuously records and when parked, the device’s sensors can trigger it to record and send a push notification when it detects incidents like a shopping cart bump, hit-and-run collision, attempted break-in, or unauthorized towing.

By connecting to an aftermarket security system, the Drone XC receives extra door, hood and trunk monitoring and users can arm the system along with locking doors from the remote.  If users view suspicious activity around the car they can trigger an alarm to ward off intruders.

“In light of increasing reports of car theft, break-ins, and property damage, we believe the Drone XC Dashcam delivers a true all-in-one security solution that protects and monitors the vehicle from these threats,” said Firstech’s Justin Lee.

Motion sensing found in typical 4G dash cams relies on the image sensor which draws a lot of current from the vehicle’s battery. In most cases the car must be driven every two days in order to recharge the battery, said Lee.   The Drone XC uses the option to rely on the alarm triggers to start recording and this uses 90 percent less current, Lee said.

The Drone XC’s additional sensors also protect against false alarms.

The Drone XC provides these sensors to trigger an event recording while the car is parked:

  • Motion
  • Impact
  • Glass-breaking
  • Tilt
  • Door open
  • Trunk open
  • Hood open

Current DroneMobile users will be given an opportunity to upgrade to the new dash cam.

The XC Dash Cam can be controlled via an Apple Watch and Android smartwatches as well as an iPhone or Android phone.  It also responds to Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri voice assistants.

A basic DroneMobile plan starts at $5.99/month or $7/month for LTE service.

The DroneMobile XC Dash Cam works with the leading aftermarket remote start and alarm system brands, including Compustar, Arctic Start, NuStart and FTX.

Features include:

  • High-Definition, Wide-Angle Lens: The XC Dash Cam has a 2K (2560×1440) front camera using a Sony STARVIS sensor. It delivers 154 degrees of surveillance coverage and captures detailed footage at 30 frames per second in most lighting conditions.
  • Live View from Anywhere: View live dash cam footage via AT&T in and around the car by tapping “Live View” in the DroneMobile app.
  • Secure Backup to the Cloud: Any videos a user marks as favorites or important are automatically backed up to the cloud.
  • Optional Interior or Rear Camera: DroneMobile XC can connect to an additional video input to add an interior or rear camera.
  • Expandable Memory Storage: DroneMobile XC has 64 GB of local storage that can be expanded to 256 GB via a micro SD card. With increased storage, videos are saved longer before they’re overwritten by newer footage.
  • Seamless Installation: DroneMobile XC offers streamlined installation with vehicle-specific T-harnesses.
