DOW Electronics, a distributor in the South/Southwest, plans to extend its reach up the East Coast through New York in custom integration. A 12 volt Eastern Seaboard presence could follow in one or two years, it said.

The distributor of home and car audio has reached an agreement with BDC Distributors to acquire certain assets of the Westbury, NY based home audio distributor.  DOW then plans to add distribution in the mid-Atlantic states to complete the East Coast territory.

“This particular acquisition is 100 percent in home electronics.  We’ll go up there and get our feet wet. There’s no immediate plans for us to start growing our 12 volt business up in that territory but at some point in time, we will….It might be a year or two years before that comes into fruition. There’s 25 steps…that have to take place before then,” said Dave Elkin, DOW Senior VP.

DOW and BDC Distributors hope to close the purchase on Thursday, October 24, 2019. DOW will open for business Monday the 28th in BDC’s former location.

DOW said in a press release, “This acquisition will bring new customers, as well as increase territory agreements with current DOW vendors to cover the Metro New York area. The acquisition sets up DOW for future growth with new vendors, territory and customers.”

It added, “DOW is actively working on plans to organically grow their territory through the Mid-Atlantic market to connect its existing territory in the South to the newly acquired New York Metro territory. DOW has confirmed agreements with key vendors to begin this growth concurrently with the closing of the BDC acquisition.”

DOW 12 volt brands include Sony and Alpine.

Elkin added, “We did a Western expansion when we bought Eagle [Distributing].  We didn’t see ourselves going any further West so the Eastern Seaboard made sense. You go with the population, that’s where the dollars are. It made sense for us to continue up the East Coast.”

DOW purchased the assets of Eagle Distributing of Louisiana in 2015 and  dB South Distributing of GA in 2016.  It opened a distribution center in Carrollton, Texas in 2015.

DOW is based in Tampa, FL  and it operates six locations serving Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.
