Ford makes FordPass Free For Life

Since 2015, Ford has offered the ability to remote start your car from a smartphone as a free service for the first five years of use. Now it’s making the feature free for life. All cars that support FordPass Connect can now unlock doors, remote start from a phone, schedule maintenance visits, check fuel level, and summon roadside assistance at no charge.

Every Ford vehicle is expected to include a FordPass connection by the end of this year, said Forbes.

Ford is the first of the top automakers to offer remote start from a phone completely free.

Free service does not include the FordPass WiFi hotspot offered over 4G through AT&T. Update: You do not need to subscribe to WiFi to get remote start, door unlock, etc.

Connected services like FordPass and GM’s Onstar,  allow the car makers to collect data on how their vehicles perform on the road. This information can then be used in product development for future cars.

  1. So how do I know if my car has that? I have a 2018 Ford Fusion. And how do I download the app?

  2. Well now that’s done how and where do. Start to get feature Zaza I have my Android for install in sync and Ford pass I have seen NO set up for the phone remote start!!!!!

  3. It’s like you buy a new Ford with navigation and a year later Ford wants $150 to up date the navigation system.

  4. So does that mean that the vehicle owner needs to subscribe and pay for Fordpass wifi for the remote start to work for “free” and if so what is the annual or monthly fee for that service?

    1. Ford said:

No, customers do not have to add the WiFi hotspot subscription to access the connected features of FordPass (remote start, lock and un-lock, vehicle health alerts and maintenance scheduling). The features are available on select model year vehicles equipped with a modem or FordPass Connect.
