Pioneer Electronics (USA) announced the first Android Auto deck to hit a $400 suggested retail price in a new mechless head unit due in September.

The new MVH-2300NEX offers both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in a double-DIN media receiver with a 7-inch LCD.  It will follow 5 other Pioneer decks announced in May that are due to ship this month.

The MVH-2300NEX includes SiriusXM capability and Bluetooth and it’s one of the first aftermarket decks to offer Waze.  With Waze, your maps appear on the larger radio screen for easier viewing.

Other features include Spotify, Pandora (with station creation), and USB connectivity.

Pioneer also announced an “Upgrade Your Car Tour,” an experimental tour across the US to give consumers hands-on demos of CarPlay, Android Auto and Pioneer products.  It will take place at summer festivals of 10,000 or more people starting with the San Clemente Ocean Festival in Southern California on July 15. The tour will consist of about 13 additional stops at various events.

Pioneer will partner with retailers and host a booth at the summer events.  Consumers will be able to charge their phone and get a demo of CarPlay or Android Auto directly from their own phone.  The theme of the event will be the same as last summer, “Don’t break up with your car, upgrade it.”

Of the previously announced 5 new Pioneer decks due this month, one is the AVH-2300 at $500 which is similar to the new MVH-2300NEX noted above except the AVH version includes a DVD/CD transport. Pioneer’s Ted Cardenas said Pioneer is awaiting final Apple approval for the 5 new decks but that Pioneer expects to receive approval momentarily.
