Rydeen Mobile Electronics is showing at CES an aftermarket heads up display (HUD).  Rydeen will  distribute the HUD, which was developed by LightSpeed Interfaces of Everett, WA.

The portable HUD called lumidrive is expected to ship in about 6 months.  In some ways its form factor resembles a Navdy, but it will be offered at about half the price, or $400.

Also, while the prototype (5th generation) shown at CES used a plastic screen, the lumidrive can project directly onto the windshield with a film that is placed on the windshield.

The main function of lumidrive is to show navigation, but it has an HDMI input so a passenger can watch a video on the windshield directly from a phone.

For navigation it will offer a simpler user interface for Google Maps, Waze and other navigation apps and it will deliver voice prompts.

It has Bluetooth and USB connections as well as HDMI.

Lightspeed CEO Dave Clarke said, “It will display anything you want but its main function is taking Google Maps and Waze and projecting a simplified version of it.”

He added, “There’s a need for navigation to be simpler and timely.”

LightSpeed Interfaces’ background is in military laser systems and optics hardware development.
