Pioneer Electronics (USA) introduced at CES an active subwoofer that uses a new proprietary technology to control frequency response and increase subwoofer performance.

The model TS-WX70DA is an add on subwoofer that can improve the audio of any car audio system.

The subwoofer is a shallow 3-3/4” high, but claims to produce heavy bass. It uses a 200 watt class D amplifier, two 6-1/2 inch dual voice coil (DVC) subwoofer drivers, and a back-loaded horn enclosure design.

Its new Digital Bass Control provides a choice between two selectable bass modes called Deep (for jazz and classical music) and Dynamic (for current popular music including hip hop).

Pioneer says the TS-WX70DA’s back-loaded horn enclosure produces a more uniform and higher SPL output when compared to traditional acoustic suspension (sealed) and/or bass reflex (ported) designs.

The Pioneer TS-WX70DA subwoofer will be available in January at a suggested price of $500.

It is on display at CES, North Hall, BOOTH #3902.
