Phoenix Gold has delayed the launch of its WiFi DSP with Hi-Res Audio streaming until next year, possibly January.

The company is making several changes to the widely anticipated processor, which was first shown at CES this year as the iS-DSP1.8.

The unit would allow streaming of Hi-Res Audio over WiFi from an Android or iOS device. It would also play Hi-Res Audio (HRA) files via a USB connection for Windows.

A spokeswoman said, “After much consideration, we changed directions with our DSP and will be launching a completely different product next year.”  She said the new version will exceed the capabilities of the original prototype.

“Our product development team is creating an innovative product that will surpass the abilities of the previous model we were expecting to move forward with,” she said.

Unofficially, a person close to the company said the product may be released in January and that it will continue to offer WiFi streaming of Hi-Res Audio.  We could not confirm other details.

The original version of the iS-DSP1.8 was slated to ship this past March at a suggested retail price of $1,100.   It was a 56-bit digital signal processor (DSP) with 6 RCA inputs, 6 high level inputs, SPDIF input/output, and 8 RCA outputs.

It used a Burr Brown high end audio AD/DA converter and offered multiple tuning controls including equalization, crossover network, and time alignment.

Other features included a built-in 30-band 1/3 octave parametric equalizer and a crossover network allowing slopes up to -30dB with the ability to combine channels.

The unit supported up to five sources (streaming, auxiliary, high level, preamp, and optical) and could be daisy chained to a second iS-DSP1.8 through an optical output creating up to 16 channels.
