Audio Logic owner Mike Dixon runs a $1.4 million car audio and marine shop in Hollywood, FL. He’s a member of the MESA Mobile Electronics Specialists of America buying group and his business is doing fine.
But as many other dealers, he’s weak in social media, his web site needs updating and he knows he’s leaving business on the table.
In the two months since he’s taken our CEoutlook challenge, he’s seen his Facebook reach rise 8000 percent, (it was pretty small to begin with) and he saw a noticeable increase in phone calls and sales.
Audio Logic’s local Internet visibility score jumped to 75 percent from 51 percent, according to Jon Dewar of Modern Media Geeks. Actual Facebook likes increased to 479 from 300.
“There’s no doubt it increased sales,” said Dixon. “The phone was ringing on stuff posted specifically on the Facebook page.”
In May Audio Logic was flat for the year. There was major road construction in his area which cut into store traffic. He’s now up $30,000 for the year due to his new social media and Internet presence and participation in a local boat show.
Audio Logic’s strength for the past 33 years has been relationship building. If you talk to Dixon for 20 seconds you realize he could probably sell you anything in his shop, because he’s a gifted salesman. “Everything we’ve ever done has been around relationship building. On the marine side there’s a local taxidermy company that stuffs fish, they have a Christmas party, so we supply the music and we set up a booth and a table.” He participates in many local events like this as well as boat shows.
Audio Logic has contracts with local and municipal fleets, with boat marinas and boat captains (those charged with maintaining yachts).
One of his customers turned out to be a head of maintenance on city vehicles. After chatting, Audio Logic now handles the installation and maintenance of two way radios in city vehicles.
Marine audio is a big part of Audio Logic’s sales. Brands carried include JL Audio, Fusion, Hertz, Audison, Kenwood Excelon, Wet Sounds, Viper and more. “We’re a medium to high end company. We do more deck and fours and amps and subwoofers than uber customer installs,” said Dixon.
He adds, “I always put social media on the back burner. I’m still learning it. I don’t understand why I have to be on foursquare or whatever…but I understand in the future, that’s where I’m going to be, kicking and screaming.”
Dixon is currently building a new web site through MESA.

Keep it up Mike always good to see and talk to you. All the best.
In a Knowledgefest Seminar Mike gave a few years back, I was humbled to hear Mike crediting me for being his mentor. At this phase in our careers, I can honestly say the student has surpassed the mentor. You’ve worked hard in this difficult industry Mike and it shows. I’m bust with pride for you.
Mike Dixon and the team at Audio Logic are the best…
Mike Dixon at Audio Logic is a great example of a brick & mortar installing specialty retailer who PAYS ATTENTION…
… to his business needs for PROFIT, IDFENTITY and PREDICTABILITY
… to his consumers
… to his competition
… to his suppliers
He does not pretend. While Mike and staff are expert at their business, Mike and staff are always in search of and considering practical ways to do it just a little better. This discipline often helps expose opportunities that a guy like Mike is sharp enough to recognize, develop and incorporate into his business plan.
