An installation of a $100,000 Focal car audio system will be unveiled next week in a 1963 Lincoln Continental Roadster.

The build took over 18 months by a team that included 15 master automotive technicians at a shop in Abbotsford, BC called 360 Fabrication (part of which is 360 Car Audio and Marine).

1963 LincolnThe Focal system used two Focal Ultima Kits that were released last year at $20,000 each.  The build is the only “twin” Focal Ultima Kit installation in the world, said 360 Fabrication President Rick Francoeur.   The total system has 5,300 watts of power and seven amplifiers. It also includes 12 speakers plus 200 square feet of sound dampening.

Focal speakersThere was a lot of customization to the car itself, which is now valued at over $1 million. The Lincoln received suicide doors, a 1250 horse power super Cobra Jet engine and a custom Bentley leather interior.

During the course of the project, the original roof was removed and the windshield was chopped by 3 inches. Also, 24-inch DUB wheels were added.

The Lincoln also got a $13,000 Ferrari steering wheel, hand built exhaust system and custom paintwork that took over 450 hours to complete.

Focal buildFrancoeur said, “The owner of this vehicle wanted something beyond what has ever been seen in a vintage custom project in Canada…”

In addition to the two Ultima Kits, the build included three Focal FPS 3000 amplifiers, two FPS 2300RS amplifiers, and two FPS 2160 amplifiers. Additional speakers included two Focal 33WX 13-inch subwoofers.  Also included were two Mosconi 4 to 6 DSP processors and about 80 feet of zero gauge wire, 100 feet of 4 gauge and 400 feet of speaker wire, said Kevin Ness, Audio Shop Manager.

360 Fabrication says it’s Canada’s largest custom shop.  The Car Audio and Marine Shop handles brands including Mosconi, Focal, Morel, Alpine and Clarion.  The average ticket on an install is $8,500.

The 1963 Lincoln will be displayed at the Vancouver International Auto Show, March 24-29 at the Vancouver Convention Center.
