Radar detector maker ESCORT has hired former AudioControl National Sales Manager Sean Reid and industry veteran Jeff Runyon as sales managers to help the company with a new “planned distribution expansion” and to directly support 12 volt aftermarket retailers and key accounts such as Best Buy, Costco and regional distributors, said ESCORT.

The company said it plans to significantly increase its market share over the next few years.

In addition, the company hinted that its model of selling radar products direct for several months before offering them through retail, may be shifting.   ESCORT said that some products will be sold through retail upon release.

Reid, in addition to his most recent post at AudioControl, has also held positions at InstallerNet and Cerwin-Vega Mobile and he served as Manager of Fleet Operations at Wheelz car sharing service.

Runyon has held posts at Kenwood, and Delphi, with retail experience at stores including hh Gregg and Good Guys. He’s also held top sales and business development posts at itablet/Xriver Technologies and XM-I Pte.

“ESCORT’s custom installed base will get a boost with Mr. Reid’s decade-plus experience managing and training aftermarket installers in mobile electronics including audio, security, navigation and accessories,” said ESCORT.

Dave Smidebush, ESCORT VP Sales said the new managers are “ready to help ESCORT erupt the market.”

ESCORT’s parent company, Monomoy Capital  Partners,  purchased rival radar detector maker Cobra last September.

  1. John what little they will lose from independents will mean little or nothing to Escort. It’s all about numbers integrity has nothing to do with it.

Kicker, Rockford, Alpine, Kenwood and the list can on and on……

  2. All I saw in this article was Escort will soon be in Costco. I sure hope they don’t do this to their brand. Now it’s a high end brand with distribution integrity. They drop it in costco and all the independents will drop it. Sean knows this from Audiocontrol I hope he keeps it clean still.
