Apple announced Monday morning it sold a record 9 million new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c models in 3 days since the launch of the devices on September 20.
About 5 million iPhone 5 models sold over launch weekend a year ago.
Additionally, Apple reported that iOS 7 has become the fastest software upgrade in history with over 200 million iOS devices now running iOS 7.
“This is our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold―a new record for first weekend sales,” said Tim Cook, Apple CEO. “The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone.”
Demand for the iPhone 5s has outstripped the initial supply, and many online orders are scheduled to be shipped in the coming weeks, Apple said.
The iPhone 5c seems to be in adequate supply, according to reports.
The iPhone 5s pricing starts at $199 for a 16GB model while the 5c starts at $99 for 16GB.
