Sony is planning to release a new “Honami” smartphone overseas as a successor to its Xperia Z smartphone launched at CES in January.
The new phone, according to published report in Korea this week, will include a 20 Megapixel, f/2.0 camera.
The Sony i1 Honami will likely be available only in Korea, at least initially, but it indicates, the growing importance of the camera as a a key battleground feature in smartphones. The Honami appears to be Sony’s answer to the newly announced 41-Megapixel Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom.
Details on the new Sony phone are expected to be announced on September 4 during the IFA show in Berlin.
