After a few delays (since November), Parrot’s first double DIN Android car radio is now shipping.
Parrot’s Asteroid Smart is an AV receiver with a 6.2-inch multitouch screen so users can swipe and zoom through apps. It has built-in Wifi and provides a USB connection to a 3G or 4G air card. You can also connect your phone or tablet via USB. And the unit also has Bluetooth (including streaming audio). It runs Android 2.3 and lets you download apps from Parrot’s Asteroid Market.
Parrot released a 1 minute YouTube video promoting the product here: http://youtu.be/bE1My3PWJ7k
The Smart has a retail price of $599.99.
It’s joined by two other Android-based car products: an Asteroid Tablet that sits on the dash or windshield as an add-on GPS device with Bluetooth handsfree calling and music streaming. It has a 5-inch color multitouch screen and built in WiFi. You can select music via voice control. You must download a GPS app for navigation and you can also download other apps to the device at $399.
Also new is the Asteroid Mini, a scaled down version of the tablet, with a 3.2 inch screen at $299.
