Rockford and Blaupunkt are showing during CES a 4G/WiFi-connected, Android-based Audio/Video system.
The system is intended to demonstrate “the future of connected in-vehicle entertainment.”
It shares audio and video over DLNA so that the 32-inch backseat TV can sync with a tablet, smartphone or other device to playback movies, etc. It can also automatically sync with a home computer while parked at home.
The system also uses a patented means of live-streaming Internet radio stations to any car radio with USB.
The prototype includes a media server plus two touch screen displays that may be touch-operated even with gloves on, said Rockford.
The Android 130GB media server can run Google apps.
The demo also includes a 19 speaker, 16 channel audio system with 1,300 watts RMS of Class D power. “Only a few amplifiers in the world contain this amount of processing power,” said Mike Cozza, Rockford OEM Technology Manager. “This allows us to fine-tune the audio experience in ways that were unimaginable five years ago.” The system uses DIRAC sound-field management technology to create both an audiophile and dual-zone listening mode. The dual-zone mode includes noise cancelling technology so the front-seat passengers may listen to full-range audio, while the second row can listen to movies.
The concept vehicle is on view at the Rockford suite in Las Vegas at The Palms Casino Resort, Jan. 8-10.
