The SMD IM-SG Impedance Meter / Signal Generator is the latest in a complete line of handheld diagnostic tools for the auto sound technician. The SMD IM-SG is a combination of two incredibly powerful tools – an impedance meter and a sine wave generator. It is the tool for those that are serious about custom enclosures.
The SMD IM-SG allows technicians to:
Electrically determine the exact volume of an irregular shaped sealed enclosure
- Determine the exact tuning frequency of ported and Bandpass enclosures
- Determine the exact tuning frequency of enclosures employing passive radiators
- Determine actual infrasonic (subsonic) filter set points for ported enclosures
- Locate and treat interior and exterior panel rattles
- Determine the actual impedance curve of subwoofers in enclosures of any type
- Determine the actual effect of “box rise” for SPL vehicles
In addition, the SMD IM-SG allows one to quickly ascertain the actual Thiele/Small parameters of any driver. This allows one to base their enclosure design from data specific to the driver(s). When used in conjunction with the SMD CC-1 Crossover Calibrator, the SMD IM-SG also allows one to determine the actual crossover frequency of any passive crossover network.
