Clarion is now shipping a windshield-mounted tablet device that serves as a ‘head up’ display for the iPhone.
Users will get voice access to Facebook, Twitter and news apps through the device. It will also display and control apps such as Pandora, TuneIn, Vlingo, INRIX Traffic and Odyssey.. More compatible apps will be added in the future.
The device, first announced in May, uses the phone’s connection to the Internet but will also have a Cloud connection to a new Clarion service that will permit updates to the device. It is also Bluetooth enabled for handsfree calling.
“The Next GATE will have a broad consumer appeal due to its simple mounting and connection method, using a windshield mount and built-in speaker, microphone and audio output for a vehicle auxiliary jack,” said Clarion.
The devices has a 12 volt power adapter for the car and works with the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4.
