Rockford will become the exclusive distributor of Blaupunkt car audio in North America, it confirmed, resurrecting the once iconic Blaupunkt brand yet again.
Details on the arrangement, including timing and distribution channels will be announced later this week, said Rockford.
Rockford CEO Bill Jackson said, “We feel like the brand has always been identified with quality and performance. It’s a very recognized brand, so we’re excited about the opportunity and we’ll be releasing more details later this week.”
Blaupunkt officially left the U.S. market a few years ago and then returned last November under the exclusive distribution of American Music and Sound based in South Haven, Miss. However, American Music pulled the plug on the venture in May. This followed the departure of American Music’s General Manager, Neil Willard who took a position at Harman, said several industry sources.
American Music and Sound did not return CEoutlook phone calls.
Once a leading name in car audio, Blaupunkt products are German-engineered and produced at Blaupunkt’s facilities in Germany, Malaysia and China.
