A two-store Kentucky car electronics retailer has received $16,000 worth of free Avidworx displays in a new program.

Avidworx displaysAudio Center, owned by Lance Putnam, is the recipient of the first “Pay it Forward” program from Avidworx that will give one worthy retailer a year, free car electronics retail displays.

Avidworx notes that TV is packed with reality makeover shows. It wanted to create its own “makeover” program to “give back to the industry,” said Avidworx’s Marcel Newell.

The company will redirect 1 percent of its profits to the Pay it Forward program where one store will receive free displays annually. Avidworx will select from fans on its Facebook page that “could use a little boost.” It looks for  retailers that display “the passion, drive and willingness to grow and change with the evolving 12V industry, but may be a little short of funds,” said a statement.

Putnam received 3 displays and a closing station plus accessory “sections.” He noted, “We’ve been struggling; this past year has been really tough on us. We thought we were over the hump and then our area’s business went back down.”

Putnam, who considers himself an installer, is an active member of the Mobile Electronics Retailers Association (MERA) and The True North Project.

He said of Newell, “It’s not just about the displays, it’s about the fact that someone I don’t know that well says, ‘I believe in you enough, I’m going to give you these displays.’”

One display is a remote start station that includes an interactive image of a car. When you hit lock on the remote starter the car’s LEDs light up and the parking lights flash.

There’s also a display that lets you A/B switch between a stock OEM sound system and a stock radio plus an aftermarket amp and then an aftermarket subwoofer. So customers may hear what happens when you add an amp and then compare the difference when you add both an amp and subwoofer.  It also demonstrates the ability to add an iPod to a factory system.

Putnam was notified of the Pay it Forward award at KnowledgeFest in early October.

Newell said, “We are doing this because I believe our retailers have the passion and drive to be truly successful. What many retailers in our industry are missing are access to the right tools; being capital, interactive showcases and execution best business practices. We have seen our retail environments truly give our clients a massive boost in revenue, conversion and gross margin (which all equal more profit). So, as a socially responsible business, if we want to give back, why not give back into our own community?”

Putnam was selected for his work in MERA and The True North Project and his commitment to the industry.

“We at Avidworx appreciate Lance’s passion, acknowledge his sacrifices, and wanted him to know that our industry appreciates him. In his business Lance will do whatever it takes grow and be successful, whether it is to read a book, fill out a spreadsheet or get into the install bay to get a job done. Lance has the drive to be truly successful, so we wanted to make it easier for him.”

  1. Congratulations Lance! I heard it has been a particularly tough market in your area. With these new displays you should be able to move up-market where the future seems to be.
