April is national Car Care Month when many car repair shops hold free clinics in their parking lot so drivers can see if their car is in good shape. It’s promoted by the Car Care Council so local shops often get TV news coverage for the events (see video below). We mention it for two reasons.
First, you might want to cross promote with one of the local repair shops hosting a clinic. You could set up a tent promoting driver safety products like back up cameras and Bluetooth systems. Then you can cash in on the local press for the event and find new customers.
There’s a listing of all the local events this month at http://www.carcare.org/events to find one near you. The Car Care Council holds a second annual promotion in October to get ready for winter.
Another component to this, is to offer a spring car stereo clinic for free tune ups on a sound system and get some feet in the door? It could be held in conjunction with the national car care events or on your own, at your store. Consumers could come in for an amp retune to get the gain controls checked, suggests Barry Vogel, founder of the True North project. You could hold a fall event to check the connections and pin switches on remote starters.
