The iPad is causing injury to a lot of consumer electronics segments. It’s crushed the high end of the eReader market, leaving Amazon and Barnes & Noble nowhere to go but the low end. It’s gobbled up would be netbook sales and now it’s devouring the low end of the notebook PC market.
“It appears the iPad is adversely impacting the PC industry, specifically notebook PCs, causing a scramble by vendors to launch iPad-like tablets,” wrote UBS analyst Maynard Um. He cut his estimates for growth in notebook PC sales to 13.1 percent this year, down from 18.4 percent. And at the same time he increased his iPad forecast to sales of 28 million units for 2011, said Forbes.
