Amazon is adding Android to its roster of phones that support the Kindle eReader app. This summer smartphones with Android can download a free app to access over 540,000 eBooks from the Kindle store (via over-the-air purchase and download). iPhones, iPod touch devices, the iPad, Blackberry devices and Macs and PCs already work with the Kindle app.
Android-based phones now have a 28 percent share of smartphone sales compared to Research in Motion smartphones with a 36 percent share and iPhones with 21 percent stake, putting Android in second place in the U.S. for the first quarter, according to the NPD Group.
