Trulli Wireless Subwoofer For the Car

Trulli, the company that previewed a wireless powered, enclosed subwoofer in February, said it plans to ship in September and has expanded its lineup.

The subwoofer, BASS50, can charge via 12 volt aux power as you drive via a Lithium battery, which can also be removed and charged at home. An optional vehicle kit has rotary knobs for volume.

The subwoofer uses a unique 10-inch flat woofer (see below) in a .3 cubic foot enclosure with a battery compartment on one side and electronics on the other. It communicates via Bluetooth with a smartphone and app. The system also wirelessly connects to the head unit.

The BASS50 measures about 20 by 16 by 7 inches. One new addition to the line is a bolt on kit that turns the sealed enclosure into a ported bandpass system with twice the output, said Trulli.

Another addition to the line will be a smaller angled enclosure so it can fit under the seat in compact pickups and Jeep Gladiators. This model is still in development.

The BASS50 works with a Trulli app and smartphone mic to take an audio sweep of the car and tune the enclosure to suit the vehicle cabin. It can produce 122 to 135dB depending on the type of vehicle and placement. There’s no need for permanent installation.

The car kit uses Bluetooth to adjust the volume, and it also uses a proprietary Trulli protocol to offer an independent wireless bass knob.

Versions of the car kit are available for use with either a 3.5mm jack, USB or CarPlay/Android radio (each using a different dongle). The 3.5mm jack car kit will be launched first with others soon following.

At full volume, the BASS50 gets 7 hours of battery life on a charge, or 20 hours at moderate volume. Power is rated at 600 watts RMS, 1,000 watts max.

Trulli presented a demo of the BASS50, along with two portable Bluetooth speakers (Trulli model JAM5) for the mid/highs, which was impressively loud and clear.

The smartphone app lets users adjust the levels, set presets and fine tune the audio.

Trulli also recently began shipping its flat 10-inch coneless woofer, called the TD10S. Its magnet and voice coil are wrapped around the speaker’s perimeter. It is said to be lighter and narrower than comparable speakers so it is able to fit in a car door with a 2.2 inch mounting depth. The TD10S uses a ring of neodymium magnets and a 7-inch voice coil. Power handing is rated at 288 watts nominal, 600 watts “program” and 1000 watts peak. See other specifications here.

Trulli is offering the products through car audio dealers and will then expand to offer them direct to consumers. The company is working with manufacturer reps in some regions, and presently partners with 20 specialists, it said.

“Car audio retailers and custom installers are a priority for us for our install required solutions….at TrulliAudio.com, we will never sell below MSRP. If consumers purchase the products and get the install from the dealer the warranty goes from 1-year limited to a 3-year more robust warranty, so the advantage is for the consumer to get their product installed,” said Jordan Neuhauser.

“Our dealers are world class. Consumers should be learning about these shops because their work is phenomenal. We’re looking forward to referring consumers to our dealer network. We’re already doing some events with our dealers and working on a demo vehicle with one dealer,” Neuhauser added.

Trulli plans to expand the 10-inch woofer lineup with a 6.5-inch woofer, 6.5-inch mid driver, and 12- and 18-inch woofers.

It also will offer enclosed loaded subwoofers that are not wireless and not amplified. It will offer three models using the same thin 10-inch woofer with power handling ratings at either 200 to 400 watts or 300 to 500 watts, into 2ohms, 20 to 400Hz. Pricing ranges from $1899 MSRP to $2299. These enclosures will be made from Baltic birch, and will ship in July/August.
