JVC AV radios work with MotionX GPS app to add navigationIn case you missed it, JVC Mobile is heavily investing in app use in its 2011 car radio lineup.

Many of its new receivers work with either Pandora (with 75 million users), iheartradio (with 11.5 million users), or a MotionX GPS app (the number one ranked navigation app in the iTunes App Store).

Clear Channel Radio’s iheartradio works with 2 AV/navigation receivers. You download the app to your iPhone and plug the phone into the car receiver via USB. You then get iheartradio’s access to 750 radio stations. The navigation units also give you free traffic from Clear Channel’s traffic network as well as weather updates and other information. Compatible models include the KW-NT50HDT and KW-NT30HD.

Pandora on an iPhone can work with 4 receivers: 2 Arsenal and 2 standard JVC models. The radios also have hard thumbs up/thumbs down buttons for approving or disapproving songs for your personal radio stations on Pandora. Models that work with Pandora include the Arsenal KD-A725 and KD-A925BT and the JVC KD-R720 and KD-R820BT.

The MotionX-GPS Drive app for the iPhone works with four AV receivers, converting them into personal navigation devices (PNDs). The map on the phone is displayed on the AV radio and you get turn by turn directions. Maps are constantly updated. The GPS app costs $.99 cents plus $20 a year. It works with the KW-AVX640, 740, 840 and KW-ADV794.

JVC said its 2011 head unit line from $119 up works with many apps for an iPhone or iPod including YouTube (which may be displayed on AV radio screens).
