Suppliers such as RIM who plan to offer business aimed tablets should take note. Gaming is still the second most popular use of tablets, with over 52 percent of tablet owners playing games on their devices, according to a study by Interpret.

Also, active gamers are more likely than average consumers to plan on purchasing as tablet in the next three months.

Web surfing, not surprisingly, is the most popular pastime on tablets with over 58 percent users surfing the Internet.

In smartphones, social networking is up 12 percent in use over last quarter. Interpret found almost half, or 45 percent of respondents are accessing a social network via their phone.

  1. its really a natural progression for smartphones and tablets. they usually contain a very powerful device that can be used to control games… the G-sensor and the accelerometer. these makes the smartphones and tablets even more powerful than the standard handheld game devices. except for the kinect and the wii wand, which has very sophisticated sensors and tracking systems, the rest of the gaming consoles just have a vibrating mechanism to simulate game feedback. imagine.. using the iTV to be your game console, its basically an iPad device running on A4 and iOS4, and using either the iPhone or iTouch or the iPad as the remote wireless controller, you really have a sophisticated game console combo thru a standard downloaded game app… the possibilities are endless… you can also use an andriod phone 2.1 because it also responds very well to the g-sensor and the accelerometer.. better if its 2.2 froyo or even the 3.0 gingerbread..
