Apple revealed a new iOS 11 platform that offers a solution for drivers who don’t have CarPlay.
Yes, that is how Apple is billing a new feature called “Do Not Disturb While Driving.” The feature is automatically offered to those who drive with an iPhone running iOS 11. It will show only a blank screen when someone attempts to text you while you are driving. And the phone will automatically send a standard message alerting the sender that you are now driving.
It works over both Bluetooth and WiFi doppler to determine that you are in the car. Car passengers can opt out of the feature.
iOS 11 is also adding maps of malls and airports in Apple Maps. You get a detailed floor plan of a mall with search and browse for different mall floors.
While driving in Apple Maps under iOS 11, you will see the speed limit in the upper left corner and you will now receive lane guidance to know which lane to be in for your next navigation cue.
By the way, Apple also announced that when in Apple Messenger you can send money to your friends and family over Apple Pay.
The announcement was made by Senior VP Software Engineering Craig Federighi Monday at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference.
iOS 11 will be a free upgrade for iOS users in the fall.
Apple also announced the new HomePod Siri speaker for the home.
