Diamond Audio Plans DSP for Powersports

Diamond Audio introduces new powered subwoofer enclosures.

Diamond Audio will introduce this year the company’s first digital signal processor (DSP).

The DSP, still under development, is aimed mainly at powersports applications such as motorcycle, marine, and UTV audio, but it is also suited to sound systems in automobiles.

The unit will offer 4 inputs and 8 outputs with a 50 x 4 watt built-in Class D amplifier.

The DSP will be especially suited to motorcycles and other applications where time alignment is not a big issue but riders want to adjust equalization and gain.

In addition, in marine applications you can adjust the eq of one set of speakers in the transom plus another set of tower speakers.

“The big advantage this is it is all Bluetooth adjusted, once installed,” said Director of Product Development Larry Frederick. It will allows Bluetooth control for both audio streaming and audio control adjustments.

He stressed that the DSP is still a work in progress but he noted that Diamond Audio and it’s sister company Cerwin Vega Mobile will be releasing several DSP models in the future.

The initial Diamond Audio model will measure about 4 by 6.5-inches and 1.5 inches tall.  It is expected to carry a retail price under $300.

“There are multiple other DSP projects in the works. Once that Pandora’s Box was opened, this is now the future.  You have the ability to do eq from the driver’s seat and set gain, phase and time alignment.  There’s no going back to the old days with IASCA where we had to put pods in the floor….” said Frederick.
