Kno Adds Single Screened Tablet

Kno, which made a splash with an advanced dual screened tablet aimed at college students, says it will deliver a single screened version.

Both tablets are now due to ship by the end of the year.

Kno CEO Osman Rashid said the new single screened 14.1-inch tablet will provide a lower priced alternative for students. “We are driven to innovate in a category that has been static for too long. Even though the Kno pays for itself in 13 months, the smaller up front investment of the single screen version will allow more students to use our learning platform,” he said. No formal pricing on either device has been announced, although the executive stated earlier that the dual screened version should cost users under $1,000.

The original Kno tablet and eReader was unveiled at the AllThingsD conference in June. It has dual 14.1 inch screens with touch capability that allow eTextbooks to be viewed just as they would in printed form. Students may take notes on the screen and draw on the pages. They can also access their eTextbooks across many devices such as a PC or laptop as well as the Linux-based Kno. In June Kno said the battery life of the device will be about 8 hours.
