Rostra Precision Controls announced an intelligent camera interface that gives you blind spot monitoring, trailer monitoring, backup and other camera views for many General Motors vehicles.
It provides a plug and play system with side, front and rear cameras that gives the driver manual or automatic views. So you can set the front camera to activate at speeds below 10 mph or switch it on manually at a any time. The backup camera can be viewed manually at any time to check on a trailer hitch, but it also triggers automatically in reverse. The side cameras activate with the turn signals or can be viewed manually.
The system works in GM vehicles with 8-inch screens including Chevrolet Silverado, Colorado and Camaro, as well as the GMC Sierra and Canyon.
Rostra’s Bill Simmons said, “The popularity of around-view camera systems has grown throughout 2015 and 2016, especially as retail installers look to diversify their offering expanding their sales into comfort, convenience, and safety product categories. While multiple so-called ‘360-degree’ camera systems exist on the market presently, all lack both the depth and clarity that a single on-screen image can provide a driver…”
The Rostra GM interface also connects to a smartphone over HDMI to share the phone’s content on the radio’s 8-inch screen on certain vehicles. Users can view Pandora, Spotify, navigation and other applications. A USB port also charges the phone
Simmons said, “Our system and the OE GM interface can run together at the same time… An example of this is that while our camera is active, if the driver modifies the A/C controls, this shows up on-screen like it would if the system was not activated. All OE feedback still shows up on-screen.”
