At the recent KnowledgeFest in Las Vegas, Arc Audio showed the new PS12-Pro twelve channel DSP. The PS12 offers a swappable path for those Arc Audio fans who have installed the 8-channel PS8.
Despite adding four more channels, the PS12 has the same footprint as the PS8 and offers a similar user interface.
“A current customer or member of our competition team can upgrade from the Pro-8 to the Pro-12 by simply swapping out the units, screws holes line up etc. This way people do not have to redo their current installations and can now experiment with ideas like rear-fill etc.,” said Brian Mitchell.
Brad Ott said, “You can even import the PS8 Pro saved tunes or profiles, with crossovers and eq curves etc. into the PS12-Pro. Keep in mind, the new additional four channels will be blank.”
Features of the PS12-Pro include RGB backlighting behind the illuminated top plate. “Most manufacturers avoid using RGB lights, due to potential noise issues. But this might be an important feature to the end consumer, and we don’t want to give the customer any reason to say no, it’s why we included it,” said Ott.
Ott continued, “All manufacturers today all have one thing in common with DSP technology, resource management. By resources, I mean the chip sets that are available to run the DSP within a certain price point. The software or GUI is what makes or breaks a processor today. This is where we focused our efforts to manage the hostile automotive environment and DSP interface.”
