Pioneer Launches SPHERA CES 2026

Pioneer Electronics will introduce SPHERA at CES 2026, the first aftermarket in-dash receiver to support Dolby Atmos playback through Apple CarPlay.

With SPHERA, Pioneer expands access to Dolby Atmos in a solution that can be applied in millions of existing vehicles. The aim is to deliver immersive audio through CarPlay, using the factory speaker locations. Until now, Dolby Atmos in vehicles has been available only in new cars with factory-equipped systems.

Dolby Atmos is an advanced surround sound technology that creates immersive, three-dimensional audio. Unlike traditional surround sound that works on a horizontal plane (like 5.1 or 7.1 systems),  Atmos adds a height dimension to create a more realistic soundscape.

SPHERA integrates Pioneer’s PURE Autotuning technology, a proprietary in-vehicle calibration system. Vehicle cabins vary widely in size, shape, and materials. To adapt to these differences, PURE Autotuning adjusts time alignment, frequency response, and channel levels to optimize performance and place the listener at the acoustical center position.

The SPHERA head unit features a 10.1-inch HD touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity. It has an LED light bar and a strobing effect that beats to the music. Also included is turn by turn navigation.

Pioneer’s SPHERA will be available in spring 2026 at prices starting at $1,300.

SPHERA will be showcased at Pepcom, January 5, the day before CES in Las Vegas, as well at Pioneer’s booth located in LVCC, West Hall — 3527, where on-site demos will be available.

  1. Very few 12v clients will care about Dolby Atmos in their vehicles. Pioneer should instead focus on offering vehicle specific options that would allow 12v clients to replace their oem radios. Not only as a more affordable option when compared to getting an oem replacement, but many clients will want an option that doesn’t require a subscription for features like CarPlay or Android Auto. The Chinese 12v industry is way ahead of them in this regard, if they don’t wake up, they’ll lose even more market share to them.
