MTX Audio (MiTek Electronics) launched its first new marine amplifier series in many years.
The new marine amplifiers are based on MTX’s THUNDER amplifiers. They expand that platform into the marine space, combining THUNDER’s strengths with ruggedized features tailored to harsh marine environments.
The new line includes mono, four-channel, and five-channel models, designed to withstand the moisture, salt, and vibration common in marine installations. Each amplifier features:
- Conformal-coated circuit boards for moisture and corrosion resistance
- Stainless steel hardware to prevent rust and long-term degradation
- Compact chassis designs for flexible installation in tight or unconventional space
An MTX spokesperson said of the new marine amplifiers, “What makes them special is the fact that we took the same platform as our THUNDER amps and we made them ready for marine, and with the THUNDER amps being a little over 7 months out in the field, we have been seeing great performance. Very low failure rates, high satisfaction from dealers and customers, and actual power numbers that consistently exceed rated output. So, we’re really looking forward to seeing the same feedback from these amps.”
All models are built on Class-D amplifier architecture, allowing for higher efficiency, lower power consumption, and cooler operation—an essential trait for battery-dependent marine systems.
MTX has integrated a few features aimed at simplifying installation and maximizing performance:
- Top-mounted, sealed tuning controls for protection and accessibility
- Clip detection indicators to assist in precise gain calibration
- External bass control remotes (included with mono and five-channel units)
Before shipping, each amplifier undergoes real-world dyno testing, and every unit is shipped with a hand signed “birth certificate.” Each birth certificate details the individual amplifier’s tested power output, which often exceeds rated specifications. This provides a proof of performance for each amplifier. See below for a YouTube short released a few days ago:
