Memphis Audio recently debuted new PRXL subwoofers, becoming one of the first mainstream manufacturers to build RGB lighting technology directly into the woofer cone. The RGB strip is laminated between the cone and the surround. See photo (below). Most RGB subwoofers embed lighting in the grill and shine it on the cone.
The new line joins new MOJO 12 subwoofers and a “Blinged-Out” MOJO Pro series of amplifiers and subs as previously reported. These are all part of the company’s 60th Diamond Anniversary.
The PRXL subwoofer also includes FLEX technology: a Tri-Flex selectable impedance system that allows people to configure each subwoofer into 1-, 2- or 4-ohm installation. The installer can then configure the subwoofer box for any amplifier.
Nick LoMonaco, President of Memphis Audio said, “…Adding the LEDs to our best-selling sub isn’t just about looks, it’s about creating that full custom vibe straight out of the box. And yeah, let’s be honest, LEDs add 3-6 dB of output. * It’s #Science*. If you don’t believe us, just turn it up and see for yourself.”
Kidding aside, the RGB is about the looks, but the enhancement of the FLEX system and the addition of DVVC – Direct Vent Voice Coil Cooling, make the subs run cooler and longer.
When most people think of Memphis Audio, they think about the Memphis Belle 5-channel amplifier or MOJO subwoofers. For the 60th anniversary, Memphis brought back the 12-inch through-back Orange Basket MOJO subwoofer. This 1500w RMS woofer features 25mm XMAX, 1.75” of mechanical excursion, carbon fiber dust cap and a 300 oz magnet. Is this subwoofer for everyone? No, but it’s more about making a statement and celebrating the past 60 years of Memphis Audio (once known as the Fultron) and the products that got them here today.
