Bose will purchase McIntosh.

Bose announced it will purchase the McIntosh Group, helping Bose reach higher into the luxury audio market, including the luxury OEM car audio market, according to Bose CEO Lila Snyder.

The deal includes the purchase of both McIntosh and Sonus faber.

Bose said the brands will now work together in OEM car audio. They will leverage Bose’s 40 year history in automotive audio and McIntosh Group’s performance and design “to expand their research and continue to engineer authentic in-car experiences that redefine automotive sound,” said a Bose press release.

About a third of Bose’s business is in car audio, Snyder told CNBC. Sonus Faber makes speakers for Lamborghini cars. McIntosh already offers factory installed systems for some Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Cherokee models. Bose systems are available on a wide range of vehicles including  Chevrolet, Honda, Nissan and Cadillac, said The Verge.

Snyder said the McIntosh deal gives Bose entry into higher end luxury vehicles and that the company is looking forward to using its noise cancelling technology in electric cars for a quieter ride, said CNBC.

Bose will continue to develop products in headphones, speakers, soundbars, and car audio. McIntosh and Sonus faber will continue to develop amplifiers, speakers and turntables.

McIntosh will continue to manufacture high end audio at its headquarters in Binghamton, NY. Sonus Faber makes high end speakers by hand in Italy.

Bose, a privately, Massachusetts based company, acquired McIntosh Group from Highlander Partners, L.P., a Dallas-based private investment firm.
