Concrete Audio Enters Motorcycle Audio

Concrete Car Audio enters motorcycle audio

Concrete Audio is a 10 year old car audio speaker and amplifier company that does most of its business in the East, especially the Southeast.   It has a focus on pro audio, but also offers sound quality product and it is entering motorcycle audio with a carbon fiber speaker line.

In less than 30 days, Concrete will offer its pro audio motorcycle line with neodymium magnets as well as carbon fiber cones. The waterproof line starts at $140 MAP for a 6.5-inch midrange (CPA6NDCF4) that will be joined by 8- and 10-inch midrange speakers and 6- and 8-inch coaxials with compression horns.

Many of Concrete’s speakers have replaceable cones, even for tweeters and mid-bass drivers, according to Mouradian. New products are brought in every 3 to 6 months.

Concrete Audio, based in Largo, FL, sells mainly to smaller mom and pop shops that can’t afford volume discounts and big buy-ins. It has one price with no special discounts for larger retailers. Margins are higher than average, said Krik Mouradian, who owns the company along with his wife Janice.

Mouradian owned a car audio shop for 20 years until 2010 when he became a distributor.  He launched Concrete Audio in 2014, focusing on small 1-6 man operations.  Concrete product is not sold on the Internet.

Pro audio is 50 percent of its business. “Pro audio is ten times louder than conventional car audio.  It’s not sacrificing sound quality. That’s an old mentality.  There’s personal discretion in tuning. I don’t think there’s any sacrifice for sound quality.   Younger people don’t want silk dome tweeters, they want a titanium tweeter. Any time you go to a concert hall or stadium, those are all pro audio speakers and they produce warmer more natural sound than a polypropylene cone or rubber surround.  They don’t use those in the opera house.”

Mouradian continued, “Three decades ago, I’d have guys come in that wanted extremely loud sound and they would say, ‘I don’t want that kind of product [when offered pro audio].’ You can buy $1,000 of standard equipment and it won’t handle that kind of volume and power.  The customers had to learn the hard way for super loud and now those guys are doing pro audio.”

Mauradian said he has been working with pro audio since the early 1980s while many others have been in the category for only three to five years.  He says his speakers are noticeably, louder, cleaner and more durable.
